How to Choose a Modern Kitchen

The most essential element in modern kitchen design is finding the plan that will work the best. The kitchen is probably one of the last rooms chosen when doing home remodeling projects, simply because there are so many elements involved that it can quickly become very complicated. But when it is broken down into categories for decisions to be made, finding a workable modern kitchen design can become a much simpler process.

Storage

Storage is perhaps the largest concern in the kitchen area they must be spacious enough to hold all the cooking utensils while providing adequate work space. There are several ways to modernize kitchen cabinets without having to replace whole units. Contacting an interior home remodeling specialist can help when considering some modern options for cabinetry. They can help redesign cabinets with some of the newest trends such as open shelving units or glass doors. Lower cabinet units can also be equipped with pull-out shelving for ease of use.

Countertops

Some of the more popular choices for countertops are natural stone or ceramic tiles. One of the most important considerations when choosing these modern countertop surfaces is maintenance. Some of them can be very difficult to keep clean and many chip easily. Speaking to someone who has experience with interior remodeling will help eliminate poor choices while maintaining a modern kitchen design. Granite and marble are some of the most popular choices and are easy to maintain. By choosing stones in more neutral colors such as beige or light brown can help to accentuate the area, match any décor while maintaining a modern kitchen design.

Choosing Appliances

When remodeling the kitchen area the choice of appliances can complete the modern look. Stainless steel appliances can be easy to clean and add a nice modern touch. Depending on the kitchen’s décor appliances which have a wood panel design that matches the cabinets can yield a modern look.

Appliances now include more energy efficient models. Modern ovens have convection settings and many have warming drawers. To conserve space microwave ovens can either be installed above cabinets or some choose to build them into cabinets.

It is not difficult to achieve a modern kitchen design. A few changes and the desired look can be achieved.

Designing a Family Friendly Modern Kitchen

Designing your kitchen with your family in mind calls for specific planning, the planning process of one with kids and one without children may differ dramatically. Remodeling your kitchen to be a family-friendly modern kitchen must take into account what your family need currently is at this time in your life. Do your children like to help cook or are your children the type that run in and out the kitchen quickly between their sport activities? No matter how your children use the kitchen, there is a way to include your children in your kitchen remodeling plans.

Safety comes first when designing your kitchen around what your family needs. Does your child like to cook with you? A great addition to your kitchen for the little one that desires chef-like responsibilities would be a modern island built away from the stove so that your child has room to work in a safe manner. If you don’t have the space for a kitchen island making one counter space, far away from your stove, lower than the others helping your child to work safely in their own cooking space. Lower counter top will give them more comfortable and enjoyable working surface.

Family Friendly Modern Kitchen

More kitchen safety, place knives out of reach and make sure your water temperature is lower than 120 degrees F. Another great addition to your modern kitchen would be buying a cold to touch induction cook top. Make sure you install child proof locks where needed. Many appliances have child proof capabilities already.

Most families use microwave ovens but microwaves are usually in the worst positions to begin with. Most homes have microwaves close to the oven, even above the stove. The best location for a microwave oven for the family-friendly kitchen is away from the stove and within reach of your child. A below-countertop microwave, drawer type, is safer and more functional. It is hard for a child to safely reach above the stove, especially while food is on the stove. Staying safe and making your kitchen work for you is the idea when making a family friendly kitchen.

Your Kitchen Should Reflect Your Style

Modern Kitchen is Style

Modern Kitchen is Style

Home décor should represent your style to the fullest, this statement holds true to your busy kitchen just as it does the rest of your home. Visiting a family member or close friend’s home can be intimidating when their dream kitchen is already set up at its best, and you haven’t started your kitchen project yet. When kitchen remodeling is still in the ‘thought’ phase, notice I didn’t say ‘planning’ phase, there are so many decisions to make and many people make the mistake in doing what works well for another family instead of thinking of what will work best for them. Another mistake often made in remodeling is trying to keep up with the Jones’. A close friend may have a modern kitchen; this wouldn’t work for the person that loves an older look and feel of a cozier kitchen.

What speaks to your style and needs in a kitchen is more important then what looks nice in another person’s kitchen. What are your favorite colors and how can you incorporate that into your new kitchen? Adding appliances that add functionality to your home and adding an eye-catching experience is important as well. What décor are you most interested in, maybe you desire a contemporary kitchen or maybe some family heirlooms can be showcased to create a classic country look. Creating a tiled backsplash is a nice element to add to your kitchen. A stenciled border or adding stencils to your floors can make a statement on its own. What about hardware, knobs and handles of cabinetry; will an earthy look better reflect you or colors that are bold?

All of these questions are of great importance. If you remodel your kitchen around what looks nice on the television or at a friend’s home, you will later see that you will want to remodel again, all too soon. Add elements that reflect who you are and make it functional for your home’s needs. Doing so will give you more satisfaction in the task completed and will aide you in feeling more at home in your own space.

Tuscany Kitchen versus Spanish Revival Kitchen

Italian and Spanish cultures are intertwined, particularly in Southern Italy, which was part of Spain until War of the Spanish Succession in the early 1700s. Even the languages sound very similar. Therefore, it would make sense that there is a similarity between the Tuscany and Spanish Revival themes from Wm Ohs original cabinet program called the Theme Stylings collection. These timeless designs were captured beautifully and are available at Today’s Kitchens.

The biggest similarity in the Tuscany and Spanish Revival kitchen styles is the perfect balance between light and darkness. Light-colored woods along with pale paints and tiles are brilliantly contrasted with deep-colored accents, such as furniture, light fixtures, and accessories. Combining light and dark hues provides a high-contrast effect that can define a room’s features. The lighter colors dominate, providing a light and airy appearance. The room feels warm and comfortable and the dark pieces provide bursts of clarity and focus.

The Tuscany kitchen design makes excellent use of worn wood, giving the appearance of years of use and a storied history. The detailed, raised moldings on doors and panels offer an ornate design that is unique and elegant.

The Spanish Revival kitchen style offers signature finishes such as Saguaro and etched ivory to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, the proper use of textures and elaborate tile designs bring the traditional look and feel of Spain to your kitchen.

Both the Tuscany and Spanish Revival kitchen themes from Today’s Kitchen bring Old World charm to you. As always, the kitchen themes utilize only the best resources – solid cabinetry, high-quality finishes, and custom designs. You will be assured of a beautiful, authentic-looking kitchen that takes you to Europe with each step into the room.

Remodeling Your Kitchen

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 | Filed under: Changes in Kitchen Design, Modern style, beautiful kitchen

Remodeling a kitchen is said to be the most challenging yet the most exciting phase in any home improvement project. It is challenging because literally there are a great number of design options one needs to consider. Design options can vary from a more traditional kitchen, a classic kitchen, a contemporary kitchen to something more of a modern kitchen. Whatever design option appeals to the home owner it is worth noting that this is just the beginning. One still needs to consider the type and quality of materials to be used, the cabinets, the kitchen countertops, the flooring, the sink and the appliances that would go well with the kitchen. A kitchen layout should also underline the kitchen design and should answer questions related to the placement or arrangement of the components that will make up the kitchen. The design option selected addresses the aesthetic part while the layout addresses the functionality and utility aspect of the kitchen.

The exciting part of any kitchen remodeling project has a lot to do with the home owner being involved in almost every aspect from the planning phase up to the execution phase of the improvement activities. Most home owners would have already painted a picture in their minds on how they want their dream kitchen to look like even before the project starts. Being involved while the project is in progress not only allows home owners to provide input for slight modifications but it also gives the owners a glimpse already of how their kitchen is slowly being built according to their expectations. In most cases, home owners also enjoy having a say on the type of cabinets to be built down to the very intricate detail of selecting certain types of cabinet handles. It’s like shopping because you will be given a catalogue containing the materials to be used except that in this case, you won’t immediately pay for your purchase. At any rate, kitchen remodeling is fun and it’s a good way for us to explore our creativity as we actively provide input or as we passively critique how the job is being completed. In any case, one should consider partnering with an experienced and reputable company to deliver quality services before any of these can be possible.

What gadgets should my kitchen have?

Modern kitchen gadgets

Gadgets and appliances for the modern day kitchen are a must, but which gadgets and appliances should you purchase for your kitchen? We all could use items in the kitchen that save time and purchase items that make life a bit simpler in clean up and in simplifying the task of food preparation and other kitchen task that we all must do. Before, purchasing items that clutter your kitchen counters or purchasing items that sit in the garage all year long think about what you want out of your kitchen gadgets and appliances and the space you have available in your kitchen.

In regards to kitchen appliances, items you will need for your household depends on your lifestyle and on your kitchen’s design. It wouldn’t make much sense if you have a very small kitchen and a family of two to purchase a garbage compacter, a dishwasher, and a deep freezer for your kitchen. It wouldn’t make sense to crowd your countertops with a toaster, toaster oven, microwave, waffle iron, blender, and mixer either. You need space. In this case, appliances and gadgets that work for multiple purposes would be ideal. Opting for a toaster oven to work as toaster, toaster oven, and microwave would be a great decision. If you want all three, purchasing shelving for your kitchen or a stand to hold multiple items would be a great idea.

In a larger kitchen you can afford more space, but who wants so many gadgets and cords on display on their kitchen countertops. Ideally many appliances could fit and look really nice in a larger kitchen while still being able to offer you much cabinet and counter space in your kitchen with a great design layout. There is still an issue with cords and kitchen gadgets lying around that aren’t used so often. In this case a kitchen pantry purchased as a stand alone or remodeling your kitchen to have a larger pantry would be ideal.

What color should my kitchen be?

Choosing kitchen colors

Choosing kitchen colors

Spending so much time in our kitchens it is important that we create a beautiful energy with color in our kitchens. Much of our day we are cooking because we eat several times a day. Even if you’re one to eat and run and are one to cook with little time, you’re still going to enter your kitchen to make a cold beverage, to peer out the window, to wash dishes, and to do other committed kitchen duties we all have day to day. No matter your living situation a positive energy should be created in the kitchen because we are in and out of our kitchens throughout the day.

When I was a young girl my parents let me have at the house with choosing paint colors for our home. Sure I shared the task with my siblings, but my kitchen was special. We chose our kitchen to be a country yellow. Our kitchen consisted of many windows and was a decent size but still not quite considered large. Painting our kitchen a country yellow made our kitchen look larger and created a quality of freshness being we had many windows. Still to this day, I love yellow kitchens, light in yellow or bright in yellow.
You may not prefer a yellow kitchen so I would like to provide you a few tips of reason when picking paint color for your kitchen design. Start with fabric color swatches in all colors and tape them to your wall. What color do you feel best about in looking at your colorful swatches for your kitchen? The color you choose is where you start. Depending on the choice, a warm or cool color, the next step is to look at different colors in that range of color that made you feel the best about your kitchen. Another great idea is to visit different home décor websites or locations and look at their sample kitchen designs that offer the range in colors you feel best about. No matter what color you chose, have fun and take your time in the color you do chose for your kitchen design.

Our lives have become so busy. With work, school, meetings, sports, and other activities, many families are finding that they hardly ever get to spend quality time together. You have to make time to enjoy each other, and family meals at the table are the perfect way to do just that. Even if you are unable to eat dinner at the table every night due to schedule conflicts, be sure to try to do so as often as possible. Perhaps plan a day of the week that other activities must take a backseat to the family meal.

When you do eat at the table, do not allow distractions, like the television or the phone, interrupt your time together. Unplug the TV and shut off the phone’s ringer. Set the table. Enlist your children to help. Even very young children can help by handing out napkins or carrying plastic bottle condiments. Set the mood by lighting candles and playing soft music.

Dinner conversation is the best time to catch up with your family. It is the time to find out how your daughter’s science fair project is coming along. Or how your son likes his new book. Or how your spouse’s meeting went. But it goes beyond that. Try to make each other laugh with silly jokes or play I Spy or tell stories.

Today’s Kitchens offers stunning compliments dining room setsets that will provide the perfect spot for those intimate family gatherings. These sturdy and elegant dining sets will last a lifetime and be passed down to your children. Along with all the memories made during family meal times.

Themes can be based on occasion, such as a birthday or holiday, or it can be centered on an idea. Some great party themes include Oriental, Moroccan, Luau or an era – the 50’s or the 70’s are always enjoyable.

Once a theme is chosen, you should begin preparations for your dinner party. Choose background music that accompanies your theme. Plan a menu that also corresponds, such as Spicy Braised Scallops and Jade Chicken for a Chinese themed party. Don’t forget to get some personalized fortune cookies for your guests. Your next project is planning decorations. If your theme is the Arts, try decorating Warhol-style. Line your countertop with Campbell’s Soup cans. Paint over black and white photographs of your guests in bold, bright colors and display them proudly. You may even choose to send them home with your guests.

Invitations must also be in keeping with your theme. Yearbook Yourself is a great tool to create invitations for era themed parties. Be original. For instance, send Hawaiian flowers to your guests as their invitation to a Luau-themed party.

Regardless of the theme you choose, your next dinner party is a guaranteed success with the help of a dining room set from Today’s Kitchens. Your meal will be perfectly framed when placed on a compliments table.
